Sand bags in the Village

The following measures have been taken to help Parwich residents if there is a flood, or threat of a flood.

We have a supply of empty sandbags which Kirsty has kindly agreed to hold at the Sycamore. A large bag of sand will also be held in the Sycamore car park. These are for the use of all residents.

Depending on demand there may be some sandbags already filled or you may need to fill them. Ideally you will need two people, a shovel and wheelbarrow to do this. Please make sure that you do not lift any weight which might be unsafe for you. Sacks are easier to handle and stack better if they are about two thirds full.

There is also a small supply of "flood sax". These are light weight and easily to handle when dry. They sit along the base of a door like an absorbent nappy. They will absorb a certain about of water and reduce flow under the door. These have been provided on a sample basis by the manufacturer. If you find them useful you may like to consider purchasing some yourself.

Speed of reaction can make all the difference when trying to reduce the effects of a flood. To get early warning by phone, text or mail individuals can sign up for the Environment Agency's free warning service. Details are available by clicking this link.

(note that the site may say that warnings are not available for your address. However it is still possible to use the map to select an area for which you would like to receive warnings)
